What you'll need to know before your trip
Let's Get Started!
Where do we meet?
Tour guide and shuttle team to pick up and drop off at location A or B
SUP and kayak 101 Intro, Safety instructions, CPR/First Aid assistance for duration of trip
SUP Board, kayaks, paddles, leashes, emergency whistles, approved life jackets
We have extra sunscreen, water and snacks. You can also store keys and phones with the shuttle driver. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items so make sure to leave valuables at home or at your hotel.
What is included?
Make sure you bring clothing and shoes with you that you are ok with GETTING WET. Shelby Bottoms Nature Center is a close walk from the boat launch and bathroom facilities are available there but not always accessible so come dressed and ready to go! It is best to wear some sunscreen (we have some extra if you forget), hat or sunglasses. Water shoes are recommened but any beach shoes will work.
Big Willies Action Sports is a mobile business with no physical address.
Tours and classes will meet 15 minutes prior to departure time at
A. Shelby Park Boat Launch in East Nashville (near Shelby Bottoms Nature Center & Greenway). It takes approximately 15 minutes to get from downtown Nashville to Shelby Park Boat Launch. There is plenty of parking available for free at Shelby park (make sure you lock up your car).
B. Alternatively if you are staying downtown we have a second shuttle pick up point at the bottom of Broadway and First Ave. Directly across the street from the Hard Rock Cafe and Acme Feed and Seed. You must be ON TIME if you choose this meeting point.
The trip ends downtown along the skyline and walking distance from Nashville’s Broadway and honky tonks. You can leave directly from the end of route or we will shuttle you back to Shelby Park if you have a vehicle there.
What should I bring?
Please note that the edge of the water and docks at Shelby Park and Riverfront Park are extremely slippery and could have fishing hooks or glass. Our only injurys have been slips or cuts from the docks so approach with caution.
Please enter and exit with life jacket on and on your knees (if on a SUP board). Also make sure to start and finish your paddle tour on your knees (not standing) to help prevent hitting the nose of the board or the fin on rocks or concrete.
Leashes are required to be worn the entire trip. All paddlers must wear or carry their PFD/life jacket and whistle at all times. Pay attention. Be respectful of others using the river.
